By the time you have your assured place to study, at the latest, the financial framework conditions must be clarified. The following sections will give you an overview of how you can organize and finance your life and living during your studies.
Insurance for students
In general, all students enrolled at an university in Germany are liable to insurance deductions. When you have a health insurance, you also have a care insurance as well. For matriculation every student has to show a certificate of insurance. This is a proof of a valid insurance or of the exemption of legal obligation to insure. The certificate counts for your whole study. You have to show a new certificate only when you change universities.
Scholarships and Counselling
Studying in Germany also represents a financial challenge for many foreign students. Foreign students from the old member states of the European Union and from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland do not require the approval of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) if they wish to take up employment while studying.
