Quality management

Quality management is relevant in all industries. Enforcing quality assurance measures, making work processes more effective and efficient in the long term, identifying weak points, implementing continuous improvements and implementing new quality systems are among the key strategic competitive factors. The field of study has a business management background and operates at the interfaces to safety engineering, project and process planning, product development, design and production. As a rule, students specialize in one subject area.

The course content is application-oriented and ranges from quality assurance methods and models, risk analysis and statistics, auditing and standards, quality techniques to product liability. Students learn to think in a customer and process-oriented way, to recognize complex interdependencies and to assess and apply quality methods in specific tasks. Management and organization topics are also covered, depending on the course.

Students are expected to have a background in engineering, such as safety engineering, test engineering or mechanical engineering, and in some cases also professional experience.

Quality management is offered purely as an advanced course of study that builds on an undergraduate engineering degree. Some of the courses are highly specialized, such as “Clinical Trial Management” or “Process and Quality Management in Agriculture and Horticulture”.
